Under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), contractors are required to deduct tax from payments made to subcontractors. Referred to as CIS deductions, these are meant to cover the subcontractor’s tax liability. A CIS tax rebate is HMRC’s way of refunding you for any tax you’ve overpaid.
