Self Assessment deadlines and fines
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
The deadline for filing your Self Assessment tax return is January 31st 2026. That may seem far away now, but why put off to tomorrow what you can do today?

How much will I be fined for late filing?

You’re automatically hit with a £100 fine from HMRC if your tax return is up to 3 months late. Then, if you file after this period the fine continues to increase, and you’ll be charged 7% interest on late payments. Here’s a breakdown of the fines you’re facing:
- Over 3 months late: £10 per day, up to a maximum of £900
- Over 6 months late: Another £300 fine or an additional 5% of tax owed – whichever is higher – totalling £1300
- Over 12 months late: Another £300 fine or an additional 5% of tax owed – whichever is higher – totalling £1600.

Yes. Your Self Assessment tax return is part of your core accounting fee, not charged separately.
- How Much Does Self-Employed Accounting Cost?
