Accountants for Content Creators
Accountancy Made Simple from only £28/month
Brand deals, affiliate links, AdSense, Patreon subscriptions and a cupboard full of gifted product. Caroola gives content creators a dedicated accountant who understands how creator income is actually taxed, on a fixed monthly fee.
Most creators don’t start out as a business. The income arrives before the paperwork does, and by the time it matters, there are two years of platform payments and PR packages to account for.

Specialist Accounting Support for Content Creators
Our accounting for content creators is provided by accountants who understand platform payouts, brand deals and gifted goods, not a generic small business template.
You’ll get your own dedicated accountant, not a shared inbox or a rotating support team.
Support is unlimited, and quarterly check-ins mean your accountant is looking at your numbers throughout the year, not once, twelve months after the fact.

- Cloud accounting software included
- Annual accounts, prepared and filed
- Self Assessment or Corporation Tax, depending on your structure
- Advice on valuing and recording gifted products
- Advice on capital allowances for cameras, lighting and equipment
- VAT registration and returns where relevant
- Tax planning reviewed every quarter
- Support switching from another provider
Who are these services for?
At Caroola, we work with creators of every structure, sole traders, limited companies and partnerships, whatever platform you’re on.
That covers YouTubers, streamers, podcasters, bloggers, influencers and creators earning through subscriptions, sponsorship or affiliate income. Whether you’re earning alongside a job or creating full time, we can help.

What Makes Accounting for Content Creators Different?
A traditional business sends an invoice and gets paid. Creator income arrives from several directions at once, in different currencies, sometimes as products rather than money, and often from platforms that deduct tax before it reaches you.
Get the treatment of gifted items wrong and you can cross the VAT threshold without ever noticing.
Gifted products:
Items sent in exchange for content are a barter transaction, taxable at market value, and their value counts towards the VAT registration threshold.
Platform income:
AdSense, creator funds, subscriptions, livestream donations and affiliate commission are all taxable, whether or not the platform sends you a summary.
Overseas payments:
Platforms based abroad may withhold tax before you're paid, and the right treaty forms can reduce that for UK residents.
Hobby or trade:
Not every bit of online income is a business, and where the line falls determines whether you need to register at all.
Equipment and capital allowances:
Cameras, lighting, computers and editing software are usually claimable, though larger purchases are treated differently.

FAQs
- Do I Pay Tax on Gifted Products?
Usually, yes. If a brand sends you something and expects content in return, HMRC treats it as a barter transaction and taxes you on the market value, exactly as if you’d been paid in cash. A genuinely unsolicited gift with no expectation attached may fall outside that, but the default position runs the other way. Keep a record of what arrives and what it’s worth.
- Do Gifted Items Count Towards the VAT Threshold?
Yes, and this catches people out. The value of gifts and barter transactions counts alongside your cash income when working out whether you’ve crossed the VAT registration threshold. Creators who take a lot of product can breach it without ever seeing the money.
- Is My Channel a Hobby or a Business?
It depends on how you operate rather than how much you earn. HMRC looks at whether you’re organised, repeating the activity and aiming to make a profit. If you’re taking brand deals or earning consistently from platforms, you’re almost certainly trading and need to register.
- What About Money From Platforms Based Overseas?
It’s still taxable in the UK. Some overseas platforms deduct tax before paying you, and completing the correct treaty paperwork can reduce or remove that deduction for UK residents. We’ll make sure you’re not taxed twice on the same income.
- Can I Claim My Camera, Lighting and Editing Software?
In most cases, yes. Equipment used to make your content is usually claimable, and larger purchases are treated as capital allowances rather than straight expenses. If something is used personally as well, only the business proportion qualifies.
- Can I Switch to Caroola Part-Way Through the Year?
Yes. No need to wait for year end. We manage the handover with your current provider.
